Who Would Have imagined?

Well, this is our first blog and I can't think of any more appropriate title than "Who Would Have Imagined?" We bought our beautiful beach house in January 2020 and were so excited and nervous to start the rental season.

We started making contact with our renters that were scheduled for the upcoming season and we were starting to feel pretty good about things and BAM - COVID -19/Corona Virus was here! Honestly, it felt like we were in a Robin Cook book or some movie. What was happening just did not seem real! Things were closing, people were not going to work, but were under Stay At Home suggestions, but people were out exercising and spending time with family. Our renters in the spring were unable to enjoy their plans for vacation and that was sad. Not for us, but for the families who had plans to gather from around the country!

I had one sweet renter message me to let me know she received her refund, but she couldn't open it. She cried that day because she was missing her week to spend with her family. Our hearts ached for her!

Now here we are weeks later from the beginning and although it is not over, we are seeing restrictions beginning to loosen. Oak Island has been on restriction, no short term rentals and the beaches were closed - to everyone and for everything! (This was not necessarily a popular decision, at least on FaceBook) Then the beach opened for walking only, the next week it opened for walking, fishing, but no chairs. Finally this weekend, Saturday, May 10 the beaches opened! Also, the decision was made to allow short term rentals starting May 22, just in time for Memorial Day and the beginning of summer vacation season.

We are so excited that our renters as well as other vacationers will soon be able to enjoy OKI. If you are coming, we would suggest you consider bringing extra supplies that you might not normally bring because you plan to pick it up when your get here. With the influx of so many vacationers to the island, some things might run low and be difficult to find (just like across the country). Please plan accordingly and we hope you enjoy your trip to OKI.
